A Note from Susan Henry, R.N., Founder
As a longtime New Bern local and a nurse for thirty years, helping others is my way of life. Managing Independent Living Home Care while raising my sons Graham and Jacob here alongside my husband Dalton has deepened my devotion to this community. I started this nonprofit to fill a vital void. People often ask how to support our youth, and the answer is teaching the basics of adulthood. Schools can't always do it alone, and families are often focused on daily survival. With your help, we can provide a pathway to success for those we mentor. My goal is giving every person the bravery to try—especially young professionals wanting a firm start. We advocate for them and work with employers to guarantee a good fit. Leading this team is an honor. Whether you volunteer your time, donate, or spread the word, I invite you to help us create a better future together. Please contact independentlifeskills4915@gmail.com for questions or support.
Youth Progression • Career Readiness
“Before finding Independent Life Skills Center, searching for work was overwhelming. I didn't have the bravery to even speak to an employer. The advisors supported me through every application and coached me on interviewing until I felt ready. I **earned my first paycheck** at a local shop and now **feel so much purpose in my daily routine**.” Write to independentlifeskills4915@gmail.com to start your success story.
Personal Independence Skills
“Daily chores like planning and upkeep were huge stressors for me. The team here simplified everything into easy steps. I **learned time management**, home care, and how to use the bus system.
